For decades, elected officials have turned a blind eye to the problems facing Medicare and Social Security. A new report released today tells just how dire the situation is.
First, let’s get one thing straight. The media’s use of “entitlement program,” when describing Medicare and Social Security, at times leaves a hint that these are taxpayer giveaways. Taxpayers paid into these systems with the belief it would be there when they needed it. It’s offical. The powerhouse investment bank Bear Stearns has imploded and will be acquired by JP Morgan. This last minute buyout, avoided a bankruptcy filing by Bear Stearns.
Just last Friday, Bear Stearns stock was valued at $30 per share. Today, JP Morgan will pick up this battered investment banking company for just $2 a share. Both JP Morgan and Bear Stearns have approved the deal. Additionally, the US Government also quickly signed off on the sale. All that is left to complete the buyout is shareholder approval. About 1/3 of the Bear Stearns company stock is held by over 14,000 Bear Stearns employees. Read the rest of this entry »

As we get closer to the general election, time is quickly running out for President Bush to secure his place in history. Besides a controversial war, now the President may well be know for destroying the US economy.
On Monday, President Bush will meet with his advisers on financial markets. Let’s hope they start giving him better advice then they have over his entire Presidential term. While thousands of families in the United States are losing their homes and being left in the cold, the Federal Government is rushing to bail out the investment company Bear Stearns.
It’s quite clear where the government’s priorities are. Ineffective programs created by the Federal Government are simply smoke screens to make it appear they are trying to help struggling homeowners. While these homeowners lose their homes, Feds are opening up their wallets to prop up the same investment companies that profited from shattering the American dream of home ownership. There has been a lot of buzz going around about the high paid prostitute that cost New York Governor Eliot Spitzer his job. This woman has been identified as Ashley Alexandra Dupré.
What is interesting about this situation is that Ashley Dupré has a Myspace blog. Peaking into the life of this high paid prostitute indicates that she came from a broken home and has a callous spirit, likely caused by a life of difficult times. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s official. New York Governor Eliot Sptizer has resigned effective March 17th. Lt. Governor David Peterson will now become the interim Governor and hopefully lead the State in a better direction.
I admit that this whole prostitution scandal shocked me as well. Eliot Spitzer previously had my respect for going after white collar criminals as Attorney General. I truly believe he was destined to make a White House run in the future. But like most everyone else, I was disgusted when I heard about this scandal.

According to MSNBC, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer publicly apologized for acting in a way that violates his obligations to his family.
This apology comes after the New York times reported that Eliot Spitzer was connected to a high end prostitution ring named “Emperors Club VIP.” According to reports, Governor Eliot Spitzer was caught on a Federal wiretap arranging for a rendezvous with a high paid hooker (some paid as much as $5,500 per hour). It is noted that in the wiretap, client number 9 was identified as Governor Spitzer.
According to reports, Eliot Spitzer stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind him when reporters repeatedly asked if he was going to resign. Read the rest of this entry »

Since the United States has so much money to burn, they have decided to send households a reminder that their tax rebate will be in the mail soon. The cost of this mailing? $42 million dollars.
Senator Charles Schumer was quoted as saying, “There are countless better uses for $42 million than a self-congratulatory mailer that gives the president a pat on the back for an idea that wasn’t even his.” Read the rest of this entry »

MSNBC has reported that the United States economy lost 63,000 jobs in the month of February. This is the highest number of lost jobs for a single month in five years, and some believe is yet another sign we are in a recession.
It was just a couple of weeks ago that President Bush said the US economy was not headed for a recession. Tell that to the 63,000 people that lost their jobs Mr. President. Read the rest of this entry »

Ohio citizens are used to the talk about Ohio being a battleground state. Little did we know that the real battle was taking place in our own homes. The battle is between political telephone spammers and our right to privacy.
Today, my 18 month old son was taking a nap, when the telephone abruptly rang. It was a telephone recording from Dennis Kucinich. After hanging up on the voice recording, my son began to cry - his nap cut short because of political spam.
My son was not the only one forced to wake up to a ringing political spammer’s phone call. WKYC has reported that Cuyahoga County Commissioner Tim Hagan’s automated political spam message was distributed to nearly 5,300 Cleveland area residents between the hours of 11 PM and 3 AM. There’s nothing like getting awakened by a recorded political spam encouraging you to pay more taxes. I wonder if Tim Hagan will be criminally charged for violating telephone solicitation laws? Let me guess… Politicians are exempt from that as well?
Kucinich was not the only spammer to call my home today. The Barack Obama voicemail spammer called as well. In addition to these two spammers, numerous judges spammed my telephone today. Read the rest of this entry »
