US Economy Sheds More Jobs
MSNBC has reported that the United States economy lost 63,000 jobs in the month of February. This is the highest number of lost jobs for a single month in five years, and some believe is yet another sign we are in a recession.
It was just a couple of weeks ago that President Bush said the US economy was not headed for a recession. Tell that to the 63,000 people that lost their jobs Mr. President.
Another sign that the economy will continue contracted growth is the cost of oil. Oil prices reached over $106 per barrel on Friday, and there is no relief in sight. Just today I noticed that gasoline prices climbed $.27 since Thursday. In the Cleveland area, a gallon of regular unleaded fuel costs $3.29 a gallon.
And if we did not have enough bad news, the dollar sank again to the Euro. A falling dollar may indeed make US products more affordable to sell overseas. However, our nation consumes more foreign products then those manufactured at home. In the short term, this will actually make purchasing products made overseas more expensive for the US consumer.
If there is one thing that has stayed the same is that our elected officials are oblivious to the problems facing this country. From failed trade agreements to a wasteful war in Iraq, these politicians are too proud to admit they made mistakes and correct them. It is far easier for them to let their failed policies and laws continue to damage the American economy.
