New York Governor Eliot Spitzer Resigns

It’s official.  New York Governor Eliot Sptizer has resigned effective March 17th.  Lt. Governor David Peterson will now become the interim Governor and hopefully lead the State in a better direction.

I admit that this whole prostitution scandal shocked me as well.  Eliot Spitzer previously had my respect for going after white collar criminals as Attorney General.  I truly believe he was destined to make a White House run in the future.  But like most everyone else, I was disgusted when I heard about this scandal.

What is sad is that news reports have indicated the trading floor of the NYSE broke out in cheers and laughter when news broke about Spitzer’s misdeeds Monday morning.  Traders did not like Spitzer as an Attorney General because he targeted Wall Street’s shady practices, some of which depleted investors of huge sums of money.

News reports have indicated fine details of Eliot Spitzer’s dealings with high paid hookers.  Some reports indicate he preferred not to wear a condom and he was a repeat customer.  It was reported that he may have spent up to $80,000 on hookers.

I do give Mr. Spitzer some credit.  Instead of dragging this scandal out and making it front page news for months or years, he decided to step down.  Now the State of New York can on with its business, without such a distraction.

Give it a couple years and Eliot Spitzer will probably release a book.  And sadly, it would probably become a best seller.
