Fastest Growing Cities in the USA - Tent Cities
Because of the economy, and many failed policy decisions by our politicians, not only big businesses like AIG and Bear Stearns are feeling the pinch. The forgotten victims of the housing crisis are the many displaced families.
A recent news story at MSNBC highlights what is going on in Reno, Nevada. After emergency winter shelters closed for the summer, a number of tents cropped up by the railroad. Within a few weeks, over 150 people were living in what had become a “tent city.”
Many of the people living in these tents were at once hopeful of getting a casino job. But interviews in the story indicate that casinos are actually starting to lay off employees.
Those that live in the tents must register weekly and report their activities so that authorities can monitor their progress in finding permanent shelter and jobs. They are permitted to shower in the shelter at specific times and are told where to go for food.
What is sad is that these tent cities are cropping up all over the United States. These tent cities are growing in Los Angeles, Fresno, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Columbus.
What I personally find appalling is that President Bush can bailout the same businesses that tried to dupe homeowners into unreasonable mortgages, while ignoring the plight of these homeless people. Many of these people lost their jobs, homes, and by all accounts are average Americans that hit a rough patch in the road.
Fortunately for our country, George W. Bush will be out of office soon. But it won’t be soon enough. With all the debt he and his administration is racking up, it will take many generations to repay the debt. And let us not forget how President Bush acted quickly to protect corporations, while completely blundering Hurricanes Katrina/Ike and ignoring the people who are unable to feed or house themselves. It is because of President Bush’s failed governance of this country that so many people are facing severe hardships. And President Bush’s lack of any social policies/action to deal with this devastation is proof that he shuns the poor and desperate.

Yes, yes, you’re absolutely right. George W. Bush is the Great Satan. It was he who didn’t foresee the coming of Katrina and Ike and rush to build up the levees that had gone without upgrades for the last 50 years. It was he who didn’t swoop in like a great guardian angel when Mayor Nagan sat on his black butt and didn’t use the resources available to him to move his people out prior to the storm hitting. It was George W. Bush that didn’t invoke martial law and force the chocolate population to move out at gun point. And when the Messiah Obama has spent the trillions (with a “T”) and done nothing to improve the situation in the next 4/8 years, somehow it will still be George W. Bush’s fault. Get-a-life.
